Gethsemane is a congregation of the national Evangelical Lutheran Church of America which has 10,470 congregations in the United States with baptized 4,774,203 members. Gethsemane, along with 177 congregations and 71,023 baptized members in central and south Texas, is in the Southwestern Texas Synod headquartered in Seguin. 65 geographic synods make up the national ELCA.

Sunday Mornings at Gethsemane

The heart of Gethsemane's congregational life is Sunday morning worship, fellowship and education opportunities together!

The coffee pot goes on early and stays on all morning in the glass walled church entry area and child care is available 8 - noon.

The Sunday worship services follow the liturgy of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW), the cranberry hymnal of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, accompanied by the outstanding Gethsemane Memorial Pipe Organ. Gethsemane worship follows the church year, which includes the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. The Bible lessons read at each worship service are from the Revised Common Lectionary, which is shared with many denominations around the world. Gethsemane celebrates many special church holy days and the saints of the church. Children of all ages are invited to be part of the worship as there is a children’s sermon time for all the children to come forward with the pastor, and a special children’s bulletin given at that time. The second and fourth Sunday of the month is a contemporary worship with a lively comfortable feel. This liturgy is led with guitars, piano, and various other instruments. There are at least two adult classes offered each Sunday to encounter the Holy Scriptures and faith for daily life and all are welcomed to participate. Come discover the joy of our faith heritage.
